Hi can anyone tell me if there is likely to be asbestos anywhere around this fireplace and which parts it could be in? The surround is not originally black it was painted this colour. The house is old but I’m not sure how old (somewhere over 100 years I think)

As far as I am aware you wouldn't normally find asbestos in an open fireplace. However if you are not sure take the necessary precautions, wear an approved mask, damp down before doing any work on it , double bag the waste, don't use a domestic hoover to remove dust, dampen it then sweep gently into a dustpan.

If you want to make sure get it tested by a lab or employ a professional asbestos removal company.
