Good afternoon,

I have an immersion heater in my airing cupboard. My house was built in the early 1980's (1982 I believe). Around this heater is a red jacket that contains a yellow coloured material.

I have been made aware that this yellow coloured material may be asbestos and would like some advice on this. From what I have read on other sites, the chances of this are more so that it isn't asbestos - this mainly due to the age of my house.

For guidance, the jacket I'm referring to is exactly the same as in this picture:

I will stress that the above is NOT a picture of my own boiler and it isn't in as poor condition. However, some of the yellow material is still visible.

I have been advised by a neighbour that this is likely to be either a fibreglass material or something called mineral wool. I have a similar material in my loft also but don't believe it is exactly the same.

I've been rather worried about this and so could anyone help to put my mind at rest / give me some advice and clarification on what this may be.

Thanks

Just insulating fibre, have one myself, nothing to worry about , except poor heat retention compared to modern insulated tank..
