Astra cutting out

I've noticed when driving my Astra (51 plate) that occasionally when driving about 60mph, it starts to judder and be sluggish for about 5 seconds then corrects itself.
Also occasionally when slowing down to stop say at a roundabout island/traffic light, it will cut out and have to really floor the accelerator to get it going again, it seems to be intermittant. I've been told that its quite a common problem on vauxhalls. Someone mentioned the idle air control valve or the EGR regulator, can anyone shed some light on this and how to rectify it, ie removing and cleaning them?

heard of a number of faults on these, first places to start are cleaning the egr valve and throttle housing http://www.cavweb-forums.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=83
