Hi

Anyone know if it’s possible to clean a mass airflow filter on a 2018 petrol Astra K?
I just cannot see where/what to spray.

First of all I was getting the error code P1101 and now I’m getting the message “engine power is reduced” although the car seems to running ok.
I’ve changed the air filter and I’m thinking that maybe the air massflow filter is my next thing to check.
This sound plausible?

Thanks

*I have tried to upload an image but keep getting the image is too large error.

Different car completely, but my MAF values were a little off, so I tried cleaning mine. It made absolutely no difference, so I bought a new one. The way they work is - a tiny current is passed through an even tinier wire, alternating with measuring the resistance of the wire. Air flow, cools the wire, lowering the resistance, thus giving a measure of the airflow.

The wire is extremely fine, extremely delicate, so the only way to clean it is using a carb cleaner spray, touch it, and you will wreck it. The wire in as fine as a human hair, and MAF's are expensive, so there are numerous fakes on the market.

Ok thanks.

May I ask which site you bought the new sensor?

Thanks

Not a lot of point, but.... It was a Bosch MAF sensor, BMW engine, so I bought it from a German site which was a distributor for Bosch. The actual sensor, for my model, was £180. I did a bit of research, and found the denticle sensor could be had, but in a different outer plastic case fitting, designed for a different model, for £92. I bought the £92 one, and just transferred it to my models case.

Any spray carb cleaner should work fine, they are all the same, but used gently.

Careful you don't use something that destroys the lacquer!
MAP sensors shouldn't be too expensive but air mass meters can be.
