I'm building a covered store for my motorcycle. Not so much a shed, more of a car port type construction with a couple of heavy duty posts, some cross members and a roof covering the whole lot which I intend to tile with slates.

Basically, what I want is a pent style roof with a slope of around 10 degrees. The joists / rafters will lay between 2 horizontal cross members, one higher than the other to create the slope.

Just wondering the best way to attach the rafters? If I lay them directly on top of the cross beams, they won't sit flush because of the slope & I CBA (and am probably not capable) of doing the required carpentry.

I see you can get rafter hangers but they seem to be for pitched roofs, i.e. a much greater angle. Can you get anything like this for a shallower slope? Needs to be pretty strong, i.e. support my weight because I'll need to get up there to fit the slates.

Any other approaches / suggestions most welcome.

Thanks.

I wouldn't go down to 10° with slate.
I know its only a car port but you want 15° min
using 24"x12"s
