Attaching trellis to existing fence

I'm sure a few people have worked out this formula before:

Five foot lapboard wooden fence + busybody neighbour = no privacy

She's harmless but god damn, she won't let us go in the garden without coming out of her house looking over, trying to get our attention. Lonely I guess, bless her.

Now, she isn't the tallest, so I think a foot of trellis on top of the fence (that is 'our' fence so no problem there) would be ideal.

Trouble is, the fence posts only rise an inch or two above the panels and have caps on.

Is it possible to attach trellis in this situation?
 
I think I would remove the caps, & fit new section of post on top of old post, using a batten to secure new post to old post
 
you could try a gravel board atached to your side off the fence and protruding the height of the trellis
you wold have to pack out the board abovr the top of the post to line the trellis up with the fence
