Auto defrost on fridges

Re my post today on Electrics UK (subject 'Weird RCD Trips'), can anyone please tell me how often the auto defrost is activated on a fridge? Can it be as long as about one month between one auto defrost and another?

Personally, I would try to avoid the auto defrost ones if you have a choice. You can get ice build up in hidden parts of the appliance that eventually causes damage and is difficult to defrost. I keep a few of the more flexible type of old washing up bottles for defrosting. If you fill these with hot water and spray it onto the iced up parts you can do a manual defrost very quickly.
