Auto feed on Flymo Contour 500 XT strimmer

I have been using this strimmer for about 6 months and am unable to get the auto feed to work. All that happens is that after about 5 minutes, the nylon cable disappears and I have to feed the cable back manually. It is driving me mad!

The Flymo is only about 9 months old.
