Automatic Air Vents with air scoop

I have just fitted an AAV and scoop to a solar system but find the bottle is not venting and had to vent with other means. I believe there are hydroscopic discs that are meant to swell when wet so blocking water flow, but vent did not hiss when system was filling?
Its a Voss Purgeomat.
