avensis 2008 d4d engince noise in low revs

Im getting a rumbling flapping noise, very dull noise only from 1000-2000 revs. I get it when the car is both stationary and moving and when it goes above this it goes away and is not present on idle. only when i start to accelerate or rev the engine.

When i turned it on this morning after a colder evening i seem to get what could only be described as a sink emptying noise on start up which also when away after a short time. not sure if related?

only has 54000 miles on the clock.

Any ideas

Only a couple of wild guesses, no more......
Check all of the air intake pipes for splits.....thats to the air filter, turbo, intercooler and back to the manifold.
The noise could be the fuel pump flushing diesel around the system, and this should clear almost immediately and not be heard when the engine is running - just on start up.
