Engine Revs Problams on start up

I have a Renault Megane 1.6 petrol 02 plate, when I start up on a cold morning the engine revs go to 3000 the colder the weather the higher the revs, then after a while eventually settle to normel Idle around 500 after that the car works fine, any Ideas please.

[hi mick sounds like your automatic choke is staying on longer than normal your choke works with the water in the car when the water gets to the correct temp the choke should go of is their anti freeze in your car and is the car heating up ok try spraying the throtal linkages with wd40

Hi there haven`t checked the antifreeze yet (take it you mean the level)
but the car heats up fine, thought there might be a sesor somewhere, I could check
