Is there a free AVI player which allows the viewing of single files, as in parts of movies posted in AVI format? Have tried VideoLan but it won't do this. I use Superdecoder to view MPEG's with no problem, but AVI's in a single file size ( say 500kb) won't work with it.

Try some of the DIVX software, this is free and easily downloadable off the web.
VLC Player is a good option
