Axle repair

On my 2006 Silverado 2500HD I had the bearing and race break which came apart and did damage inside the hub scaring the spindle. I bought a new hub assembly.
Is it possible or worth it to take the rough edges off of the spindle and run it without having to replace the whole axle?

If it was mine, I wouldn't. Too much chance of starting a fatigue crack at the bottom of one of those scratches / gouges.
