I have a bathroom fan that is not connected to the bathroom light switch but operates on it's own pull string. I want to change to a new fan that is connected to the light switch and continues on for a short time after the light is switched off. Can this be done with the existing fan's cable which is a normal 2 wires plus earth?

no

But you can very easily have the existing fan connected to the ceiling rose so that it is on all the time the light is on.

Most people sit about in the bathroom after their baths or showers, drying off, cutting their toenails etc, and this will usually clear the steam, since the fan will have been going all the time the water was running it will not have built up much.

You will need permanent live, neutral and a switched live (ie it is on when the light is on and off when the light is off). Oh yes, and earth too.

If your fan is in a room with no window then you should fit a three pole isolation switch too.

HEY??? You should fit a TPI anyway!

If your room has no window, then you should have mechanical ventilation.
