Hello All,

I recently refused to carry on working for an electrical maintenance company (large Co), as I would not rip their customers (whom are mainly retail outlets) off by stating lamps, transformers etc had been changed when they hadn't..

An honest week working I could generate them @£850, which I did, but was informed that I needed to be earning them £3500+pw to qualify for a decent wage (over £350 !!). That was impossible to do.

Needless to say, after 3 low pay cheques I opened this can of worms with the other 'engineers', all said that it was the only way to earn over £220.

I jacked straight away.

How can I stop them getting away with this daylight robbery ?? Any idea's please ?

Thank You
Ed.

you could approach the customers. Trouble is, they might know they are being ripped off, and think they have to accept it, or that all suppliers are the same.

Or they might not like it, but not be bothered to do anything.

A company that had lost many thousands might consider trying to sue, but how would they gather enough evidence?

If the story got out round the local chamber of commerce, rotarians or something, people might be shy of these crooks, but you have to be careful you don't get into trouble for libel.

What the customers really need, is a way to compare costs using the crooks, with the cost of using a company that charges fairly. A large customer with several regional offices might be able to do it. most businesses wouldn't be able to.

The contract would be in the hands of the Procurement officer at a large company, who might be interested but also might not trust you "disgruntled ex-employee... might be working for a competitor..."

p.s. I suppose it's fraud... you could try the police..

Thanks for taking the time to reply John.
I dont mind admitting that I am disgruntled to be honest. I worked damn hard and needed the job, but 14hr days for 220 and the whole moral thing just made it impossible to continue working for them.
Because I left I could not claim any benefit whilst trying to find a new job and it has set me back a bit and for what, being fair to the customer ??

Sorry to rant, but if I don't do it here I'll end up going around to the bosses house and getting myself in trouble :( .

Would this large firm happen to be part of a group with the initials D and W by chance ? Yknow the one that relamps for some of the large retail stores.
I was offered a job there working all over northwest but i turned it down due to them not being honest about the wage rate.

Street,
Not them no, although the promises of good money sound the same.

When I started I was told about the 3500 bottom limit and was perplexed as you only get just over a nicker a foot for fluorescents !!
Jeepers thats a lot of tube when many of the shops/offices didnt have fluorecent lighting !

Mind you to change a powerstar/ball HQI lamp it was worth 50 toward your limit

Its quite hard to find a job that pays well in streetlighting. They all promise you good money and overtime to get you in the door. Glad i didnt start working for that shop relamp firm, Think they where paying £8.80 and hour !
