We've had a very feint but very bad smell in the house since way back before Christmas. Our first thought was sewage, but I've checked all the drains, replaced the air admittance valve at the top of the stack and even had drain engineers out and there's no problem as far as we can all see.
We then thought it could be a very feint natural gas leak, but again we've had this checked out by National Grid (who have taken over Transco).
Although it is very feint, the smell is at its strongest in the airing cupboard, where we have a Megaflow HE CL145 unvented system installed. The smell did start after we (incorrectly) bled the radiators, which may have dropped the system pressure and led to other problems.
The emergency outlet valve for the Megaflo leads to a pipe outside the house, which is right by the soil stack, which could explain why we first noticed the smell in the cavity around it.
Also, the pipe is just over the cavity under the house, which could explain why it seems to be present throughout the whole house.
It's hard to put my finger on the exact smell, but it's a bit suplhur-y and quite similar to sewage.
Has anyone experienced anything similar in the past and if so, any ideas on how to fix it?
