No, Ive got a garage with the same problem. The mortar is so weak the top few bricks could be lifted off.
Still its been like since 1959, so I suppose get around to repointing it one day if/when it gets near the top of the list

The US manufacturer's site, and the UK importers site make no mention of our being used on existing mortar.
It's a joint raker for raked joints. Not for repointing.
