Hi

I re-bedded some loose patio flags with a mix of 4 parts builders sand and 1 part cement. I had some mortar left over so I throught it behind my garage until I next pay a visit to the tip. This was on Wednesday.

Today I was down that end of the garage and thought I would see how hard the mortar had set. This is where my question starts!!!!

The mortar was not really hard. I could pick up a chunk and crush it until it would crumble and fall apart. I would have thought the mortar would have been rock solid by now?

Not an expert view...but 1 in 4 is a quite week mix...similar to 1 in 5 used for setting shower trays down. When I did 1 in 5 it took at least a week for the mix to go harder and properly set only after a couple of weeks but that had a treated plywood base surface underneath which made things set even slower....
