Hi, I am fitting a new ball valve for a mate tonight for his water tank in his lift. My question is, is it worth fitting an isolation valve if there isn't one already, or is it just another joint that might fail and being in the loft out of site could cause more problems than the convenience it provides?

Cheers

Water regs stipulate that all points of water supply should have their own method of isolation. If you have to take down the water supply (and you will) just cut the pipe and fit one......10 mins tops. Not heard of any serious problems with iso's fitted correctly. Buy one WRAS approved and you should be fine
