A bamboo I planted about fifteen years ago, when I knew little about gardening, has grown under a fence and into my neighbours borders. It's a Fargesia Nitida (a clump former) and clearly, I took my eye off the ball as its put on a bit of a growth spurt this year thanks to the wet conditions.
I've dug out some of the bamboo to leave a narrow trench between the fence and the bamboo and severed all connecting rhizomes and roots and now need to add a barrier. I've read up on this and decided on some sort of thick but flexible plastic membrane about 24" to 30" deep. The 'proper' stuff will cost me over £100! Has anyone with experience of doing this used alternative plastics such as thick sheet vinyl or linoleum? I can buy a suitable vinyl remnant for about £30 so it would be an attractive option - if it worked. Whatever I do, it needs to see me out (30 years if I'm lucky!)
Unfortunately, the 8 to 10 culmns emerging from my neighbours soil are currently eight feet tall and still growing so it's now a plant in it's own right which I'll have to destroy. No foilage to it yet so could I just cut all culmns off at ground level?
