Hi I've got an annoying problem with banging coming from water pipes. It only ever does it when we're not using the water, using a tap etc and the washing machine & boiler are off. It seems to be coming from one or more of the three pipes that run along the wall behind the washing machine and up into the combi boiler. The mains tap is directly behind the washing machine.

Because the kitchen cupboard these pipes run behind is securely fastened to the wall I can't access them to be sure exactly where it's coming from. It mainly only does it late afternoon/evening.

I've heard about turning the tap off and draining the system through the sinks and toilets but will this help or make things worse? I've bled the radiators to no avail. Nothing has changed recently, had no work done. It gets unbearable sometimes it's that annoying, it's like a bang or knock.

Does anyone know what may be causing or how to solve this?

Thanks

It might be the jumper inside the main stop cock. Have you tried turning the stop cock down slightly?
