Hello I have just moved into a new house and I am being tortured by some banging pipes randomly throughout day & night. The Pipes bang even without my central heating/hot water having been in use. So from this I was assuming it was nothing to do with my CH.
It seems to be coming from my cold water feed pipe under my kitechn sink. But I can't get very close to it as it is behind the cupboards.
My confusion is what is causing the banging. Because it is happening when no water is in use anywher in my house and the heating system is off. However all pipes under the sink seem well secured.

It sounds like the water is being pumped and then it bangs.
My neighbour insists we do not share a feed pipe.
But I am unsure as to why the pipes are making a noise in the middle of the night when nothing is in use and all is at peace (except the pipes).
Can any one offer a clever word here please?
Or is it the previous owner - here to get me?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH SJW:0)

Do you live in a coal mining area, or on an old landfill site?

The area did have a coal mine very near by 20/30 years ago.
But these are not coal miners cottages etc.
The estate was built in the 60's.

Thank you.

Change the washer in your wc ballvalve. I bet it stops.

Thank you for your reply.
I am sorry that I have taken so long to reply.

I have changed the washer and the banging is all but silent now.

It bangs occasionally first thing in the morning and it is a much quiter banging.

The ball valve seems to be fitted as well as possible.

So thanks ever so much for your help, and if you have any further ideas - all would be appreciated.

Thank you SJW:0) :D
