Hello Expert Decorators

So work has progressed, and we are close to finishing.
We have painted the top of the banister the same blue as on the wall, which is water-based.
And in order to make it more durable, we wanted to varnish it.

Was looking at the varnish option and realised that there is both oil and water base (so to confuse me more). I thought varnish was all oil-based.

Ask Chat GPT who recommends that we use Water-Based Polyurethane” Varnish rather than Oil-based.

Do you agree with the recommendation?

Many thanks,
