Basement toilet is overflowing

Hello and thank you for being here to help. My house has the upstairs and the basement. The basement has it's own bathroom. For the last couple of days we notice the basement toilet has been overflowing even when no one is using it. Tonight my son noticed it had overflowed while he was taking a shower upstairs. I had him go downstairs to watch and I turned on the upstairs bathtub. Well sure enough, the water from the upstairs tub is making the toilet downstairs overflow. I figure I must have a blockage somewhere, but don't know where. I would appreciate any help I can get with this as I know nothing about plumbing and don't really have the money to pay someone right now to work on it. Thank you.
