The waste from the basin in our bathroom has always leaked slightly, and so I took it apart to see why. The pipe from the trap was slightly crinkled, so I bought a new trap. Now I know what the problem is - the internal diameter of the basin waste is too wide to allow the pipe into it. The previous owners must have jammed the old pipe in so hard that it crinked.

Is there anything I can do, or an alternative pipe design which does not go inside? The 32mm compression nut fits perfectly, it's just the pipe which doesn't by a couple of mm.

Oh, and the obvious answer of buying a new waste - it looks to be built into the basin. There's no fitting for the waste, just the threaded pipe.

Apologies for the hair.

It looks the right size, but won't fit, even with a bit of force. At first I thought it was the centre connections, so I dremelled out these slots, but that didn't help. The internal diameter is a couple of mm less than the external diameter of the trap pipe. Also see how the waste doesn't appear to be removable or standard.

I was hoping the barcode on the basin might help. You can see how there is a plug hole shaped part at the end of the waste, which I thought was getting in the way initially.

Buy a new basin waste and trap. If the basin waste wont come undo then use a hacksaw and cut it off.

Even when I took this photo, I didn't see the nut in the centre which is so obvious now. Is this a specific type of waste, or can I exchange this for a standard one from B&Q?

Undo the nut and the waste should come apart, it might need help with a screwdriver under the basin. Then go and buy a new basin waste and trap.
