I want to replace waste fitting on bathroom basin as plating has gone. removed U bend but still access is so restricted and difficult. Is there a trick to doing this without removing basin and/or taps?

Its an old metal fitting with metal nut which is very tight, and wont undo with hand pressure, cant get an adjustable wrench onto it.

Thanks, I'll try that

And when you have got it off replace the old waste with one from ScrewFix (£4.49) and then buy a fantastic little jobby from ToolStation called a "Basin Mate" (£1.14) and fit it with that.Works first time with no leaks and no mucky Plumbers Mate or Silicon.

use metal nuts in the place of plastic nuts to fix the plating.
