Hi all, the popup plug in my bath won't stay down any longer

I can grip the central stem and turn it but the entire drain thing turns and I'm not sure what will happen next!

I see some whole units online so if I was lucky it would be a case of screw old one out and replace. Pics attached with my 'lid' removed

I'm not lucky though, in general!

And the bath is 'boxed in' so will be a pain if I make a mess of things.

What would you do?!

To add - mine looks exactly like this so I suspect it should unscrew but the whole drain unscrews instead

You can buy a pop-up version, which simply drops into place, no need to dissemble anything, but you would need to cut the grid out, to make room for it.

Hi all, so I just needed to grip the grid part and the stem unscrewed. Looks like a standard replacement unit (ie the pic above) should fit, famous last words!
