Bath tap holes too large for taps

I'm fitting a mixer tap to an enamel bath, got everything disconnected then noticed that the pillars for the new mixer barely cover the holes in the enamel bath.

The old taps had 50mm shoulders, the new pillars are just 40mm and the holes in the enamel bath are 38mm which is a little close for comfort!

Taps are standard 3/4" fittings and the back nuts/top hats are fine, it's the top side I'm worried about.

Any suggestions that doesn't involve buying a new mixer as I bought it as a set and have already replaced the sink taps!

Great suggestion, thanks! Shame about the price as I'll need two - ouch! Still I guess it's cheaper than buying new taps.

While I think the P.M8 is a great (local ) shop - those are for MONOblock mixers ! . I would maybe look @ fix-a-tap ( same place ) or new taps

Might do, I was just giving you an idea rather than suggesting you should purchase the specific ones I posted... Just make sure if you buy 9mm thick ones that you have enough thread on the other side to get both your backnut and your tap connector on

A quick postscript to this, just in case anyone finds it in a search.

I contacted the supplier of the taps (Virgin Bathrooms) who were great in helping me find some suitable washers. They had a couple of types available and I went for a pair of shallow conical chrome ones that screwed onto the tap threads. They have a conical rubber washer under them for a good seal on the bath surface. Cost me an extra £10 for the pair, including postage.
