We have a whirlpool bath with a popup waste, it was leaking water and I noticed a small 'bung' seems to have popped out of a hole on one side of the waste. However the bung doesn't fit snugly back into the hole (see pictures) it just drops back out again with the water pressure. So...

1. I cant find this 'bung' anywhere online, what on earth is it called?
2. Could it have tarnished so it doesn't fit, or has something else happened?
3. Is it safe to glue it back into the hole? What purpose does it actually serve?

Thanks for your help! I need a bath!

That's kind of what I was thinking, just wondered what on earth it was for really?

Yeah, it feels like it could be there to attach a small pipe to if required i guess? So general consensus is just stick the damn thing back in.

Well that's what it did (flood is probably a bit extreme)... at least it's the garage below!
