I hope someone can help?
I am attempting to replace a plastic ceiling rose with a different light
fitting. Initially I removed all cables and attempted to rewire the new
light in a block connector matching the colours but this now I realise why
didn't work.
I have four cables coming from the ceiling and the only thing I know is
which is the switch live as it is blue with a small brown sleeve. Two of the
earths have been sleeved in the same cover and there are two further earths.
I have ditched the block connector and am trying to rewire onto a ceiling
connector having 2 lives one of which I believe is where the new wiring goes
and the live switch wire? There are 3 marked 'loop' and 3 neutral holes. One
I know is where the new fitting is wired too also.
What I would like to know is how to wire the rest to get the single light
working?
I have also noticed the power has gone from some wall sockets so presume the
ring doesn't just have a lighting circuit on it.
I would appreciate some assistance.
Thanks

Hi again,

there is 2 earth coming from the ceiling, there is 2 lives attached to a plastic connector and 2 black wires... I have a new ceiling light with the normal connectors for earth, neutral and live.

There is a pull cord in the bathroom as a switch. How do I connect this. what cable goes where?

Many thanks for your time,

see photo below with link.

Firstly, here's your pic so we can see it.

One black (the switched live from the switch) in the live of the light
One black in the neutral of the light
both earths to the earth.
The two reds go to the loop connectors.

You should find out which of the blacks is the switched live. You'll need a multimeter to do this.

I don't understand your statement
I have also noticed the power has gone from some wall sockets so presume the
ring doesn't just have a lighting circuit on it

Normally a ring circuit supplies power to the sockets. This is a differenct circuit to the lighting circuit so doing work on the lights should not affect the sockets.

All is working great! Thank you so much for your clear and concise explanations. Very Helpfull.

You are the best,

if you do not have access to a test meter, and there is a loft space above, you may be able to trace the cables from above and identify which cable goes to the switch.

make sure you sleeve those bare earth wires with green and yellow sleeving.
