Hi,

Is it ok to have the fused spur, for a bathroom extractor fan, in the loft, with the cabling fed to the fan? It will save me having to chase the wall for a socket backbox if I can just run cable the very short distance from the loft.

As for the switched live, is it just a case of running a single live off the load side of the light switch, straight into the fan?

Thanks

a very convenient way to do it is to put the FCU above the bathroom door (outside). Then you can poke the cables through the ceiling into the backbox without having to chase it. the FCU is accessible when required, and is in view when the fan has to be isolated for maintenance, but it will not easily be turned off accidentally or by people who have a psychological aversion to ventilation.

BTW if you say you are taking the supply from the lighting circuit (already fused at 6A), you don't need an FCU, you need a 3-p fan isolating switch.

Thanks JohnD.

So if I am understanding correctly I take live and neutral off the light switch supply terminals and a switch live off the light switch load terminal?

I've seen the 3 way isolating switches so know what you are refering to.

Cheers

I think you will find the connections in the ceiling rose, not in the light switch.

The light switch is a pull cord light switch. Is this what you mean? Or do you mean the actual light?

by ceiling Rose I mean the thing where the bulb is connected. this is usually where the circuit loops in and out. the switch does not usually have a Neutral connection.

With a pull switch you may find there are enough wires, but normally you need the rose.

Right sorry I get you now! I have already checked the connections and they are ok this time.
