Hi All,

My first post so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

So this afternoon i got a shower of black grit come out of the bathroom extractor (ceiling mounted) tried to give it a bit of a clear out but after a few on/offs a large amount of crud came down and blocked the fan.

I unscrewed the fan from the ceiling and managed to clear out whatever it was (I still have no idea, looks like a mix of dust and charcoal powder) however once the fan was removed the extractor pipe dropped down by about an inch.

I have managed to get it back on with the fan screwed back on however its still sitting about 1/2 an inch lower then it should and the fan is now fully back on.

Any ideas about how I can both get the pipe back up, if its likely to have caused any damage roof side, and what the hell the crud was?

Also, what would be a good replacement fan?

Cheers folks.

Can you give us pics of the extractor duct, within the loft space?
If its fitted correctly, there should be no debris in the duct at all!
John :)

Crud could be from outside blown back by high winds , but should not happen with correct outlet , or it's all the dust etc picked up from the room and fan is not powerful enough to extract, though being damp air the area at the fan will always build up some crud. I have to clean the twin ceiling outlets of my shower monthly as the inline fan is quite powerful and draws like a vacuum cleaner when it runs.
