I plan to restore the old floor boards in my bathroom as they are basically sound. But, there are gaps between them varying from a few mm to maybe 5mm and they aren't tongue and grooved. So I'm concerned about water going through the gaps to the floor below. Any suggestions re sealing the gaps?

One method I have seen is to use the sawdusts from the floor when sanding mixed with a pva wood glue to fill the gap.

The other one I've seen is by the flooring company is a rope or string they use I think bedded in the gap, seal it, then they polish is over, so I don't know much how it's done but it does looks nice.
