Here's what's happened

I had a long fluorescent light in the bathroom. One day it started fizzing and eventually blew up

I turned the power off, removed the fitting and installed a new one, not a flouro, just a regular one

Once fitted, I flicked the mains power back on and the corresponding fuse blew

I turned the power off, replaced the fuse wire (5 amps) and removed the bulb from the new fitting

I flicked the power back on and everything was fine. SO I tried the new light again by flicking the power off and replacing the bulb

When I turned the power on again this time EVERY light in my house went dead. Even though upstairs and down are on 2 different circuits

I checked the fuse wire on the 2 corresponding fuse box plug thingies and they were both fine. All the other electrics in the house work fine, the wall sockets and what not

The new light fitting is no longer installed and the red and black wires have been taped up safely

Any ideas how I can fix this without getting a sparky in? Thank you

How many wires / cables were at the light?

What colours were they?

Did you connect the new light EXACTLY the same as the old one?

Can you take a photo of the wiring / connections for us to have a look at?

When I removed the flouro light I was left with a red and black wire coming from my ceiling

I connected these to the new light fitting by connecting the red to live and black to neutral, as per the instructions

I'd take a picture, but it's a bit dark here at the mo'
