Hi, does this sound like the fan needs replacing?
Or the switch?
When switched on, the light flashes once and becomes dead. The fan doesn't work at all. When I switch off and switch on again, the same happens.
Have you tried removing the bulb and seeing if the fan runs?
Is it a pull switch? If yes, it might need replacing. I am not an electrician but I have come across a few of them them that played up like that.
They are pretty easy to replace but be aware that one of the wires will be live
Edit..., you can physically dismantle pull cord switches but they are so cheap that it isn't worth while unless you are seriously broke. I have done it before and spent ages trying to find the tiny springs that popped out.
Is the fan/light a low voltage (or SELV) special bathroom jobbie? If fan and light are duff it's either power supply or might be switch (does it click nicely) or a loose connection.
Oh... do you mean a fan with a bulb in the middle of it? I thought you meant a light fitting and separate fan.
AFAIK, they are normally inline fans. The fan (in the loft) will be 240v but the bulb is often 12v (running off a transformer given that it is in a "wet zone").
Please don't think that I am taking the pee... if it is an inline fan, are you 100% sure that the fan isn't working, some are extremely quiet. If you are not completely sure, hold a piece of loo paper up when the fan should be running and see if the suction holds it up. If it does, then you might just need a new transformer for the light (assuming that it is 12v).
