Does anyone know if the bathroom ceiling is considered a zone if its outside the 2.25m height zone that pertains to other areas? Also is it preferable to use 12v or 240v IP rated fitiings on this ceiling obviously protected with a 30ma RCD. And yes I know bathroom work is notifiable:)

If the ceiling is higher than 2.25 from floor it is outside zones.
Outside zones does not require notifying to building controls.

240v or 12v are allowed in this zone
RCD protection ideally.
If you are just swapping existing lights, then providing supplementary bonding is suitable, RCD protection does no need to be in place, if alteration, extending or new circuit then RCD would be required.
