Hello

There seem to be two types of lock for bathroom doors:
  • "Bathroom" locks which use a deadbolt
  • "Privacy" locks which use a normal latch and the thumbturn stops the handles turning
Is there any standard practice on when one or the other is used? Seems to me that the bathroom locks are more secure, whereas the privacy locks can be retrofitted to any door without having to change the latch and keep.

You can see what I mean here: https://www.handles4doors.co.uk/blog/blog/need-door-handle-privacy-plate-door-handle-bathroom-plate/

Thanks

if you have kids/the elderly then privacy is better because you can open it from outside with a coin.
Personally both my bathroom locks are toast, but I live on my own.
I do have privacy locks to fit this summer holiday, and chose them exactly because it causes less damage/work to fit
