I'm steadily replacing all the internal door handles for more modern ones.
The bathrooms in the house currently have simple tubular latches and a simple, seperate catch (the small bolt in effect).

Anyway I like the idea of changing the tubular latch type to a "bathroom lock" such that I can use a thumb turn lock as part of the handle.

Think I can do this, question is with it being an old door are there any problems I'll come across fitting the lock? I'm thinking the handle latch will need to line up with the hole already drilled for the tubular latch spindle.

Trying to get me head around whether that will cause me issues before I buy the new lock and handle!

All help appreciated.

thumb turn lock as part of the handle.

You mean an American-style Knobset

I've always thought them rather shoddy.

You have to drill a very big hole through the face of the door for the "works" to sit in

What is the age and style of your house?

I have an older style, with a horizontal mortice lock, with knob and thumbturn. It might not suit you.

Or you can get a similar vertical bathroom Sashlock

It will look odd if you have knobs or handles that don't match the other doors in the house.

One like the bottom picture.
Currently has a simple tubular latch, and I want to change the lock to one that will work with the lock on the handle.

This is the style that matches the handles on the other door.

Just wondered whether going from tubular latch to the mortice type bathroom match will work.

Door is a modern not heavy, hollow type

?

the lock you show is a vertical bathroom Sashlock.

Look on the top of your door. The factory should have stamped it to say where the lock block is. The door is probably a hollow one, made of air with a thin coating of hardboard.

Sorry, stupid autocorrect.

I guess the question boils down to is it possible (easy) to retrofit a bathroom sashlock to a door already drilled for a tubular latch and handle? There's nothing stamped on the top of the door unfortunately, looks to have been planed.

you'll need a chisel.

by poking a wire into the existing holes you may be able to tell if there is a lock block. Doors made of air are not good at holding screws, but you can get sleeve-nuts with matching screws that go right through the door.
