Interior door latches

Hello all,

Having just fitted a load of internal doors, bought the handles (http://www.howdens.com/hardware-collection/door-handles/rose-handles/victorian-chrome/) I need some latches.

Now I thought a latch was a latch.

But what's the difference between a mortice latch, tubular mortice latch, bolt through latch etc.

There seems to be a few variances.

Google was the first stop and I can appreciate the visual differences.

My initial question was a bit crap.

I'm basically after knowing when you'd use one over the other.

if you type into google the differing types there will be info.then you can decide which are the best 1s for you.
