Old house, first house, lots to do and getting a bit of a headache! I have had a shower cubicle fitted and the ceiling re-plastered. I think I need some kind of waterproof seal on the plaster above the shwer before I paint on my bathroom paint. Is that correct? Would a couple of layers of undercoat do the trick?

There shouldnt be any need to put any sealer on really, even allowing where it is, definatley dont use PVA o raw plaster. you can use a thinned down coat of undercoat, but you should just be able to put a mist coat and two top coats of ordinary vinyl matt or silk.
Thanks for that - tried B&Q and might aswell have asked my reflection! Dont mean to sound dozy. but what's a mist coat?
When you have new plaster it is very porus. This needs a thinner coat of emulsion first. This is thinned by about 20%. it doesnt have to cover that well as its only to stop the absorbtion from the plaster before the full coats go on. Bit like priming a piece of wood beofre you undercoat it.
