Bathroom speakers

I was intending to fit a pair of ceiling speakers in the bathroom & had assumed that I am OK to install them myself but on checking Part P, I’m now unsure as installation of extra low voltage also seems to be barred in a special locations; is this the case or am I getting paranoid! can anyone advise?

Speakers do introduce ELV into a bathroom but I thought Part P covers ELV lighting only.
But do you really want to pay your BCO £250 to inspect your speaker install?
Exactly what are they going to test, apart from your taste in music?
Personally I would use common sense in this situation and just go ahead and do it.
If you’re really worried, phone your BCO and hopefully they will tell you the same.

As long as the only the speakers are in the bathroom I would have thought you would be okay.

I would avoid Zone 1 obviously.

Would be interested to hear what others think

You could check with LABC perhaps

And make sure you get some with the apprpriate IP rating, otherwise the cardboard cones seen in standard cheap speakers will soon turn to paper-mache!

Thanks for the response guys. Speakers will be waterproof & remote from the amp & any controls; speaker locations are actually outside zone demarcation but obviously still within the bathroom itself. I am familiar with the general requirements of Part P & never anticipated it would be relevant to a pair of speakers but I then began to wonder if I would fall foul of the ELV requirements. I have BI visits due in future concerning other work so don’t want to run the risk of “Mr Snoopy” catching me out. I would rather forget the idea for the present & carry on singing to myself in the bath rather than go to all the trouble & expense associated with notification & I can just imaging the likely response from a certified spark for the installation of “a pair of speakers”!

I haven’t yet had time to do any detail checks myself & posted hoping one of you kind folks would have a definitive answer “off the cuff” to save me the trouble; anyone else know for sure?
