This isn't really a problem, I'm just curious.

The cold tap in my bathroom works as expected during the day. You turn it and get gradually more water out. At night though it's different - you turn it a good way without water and then all of a sudden you get lots at high pressure. This only happens at night. Any idea why this is?

there is less demand for water at night but the available water pressure is the same as during the day, but less people are using it.

well that's my theory

I'm in a top floor tennement flat (4th floor) It's just the bathroom tap too, kitchen seems OK.

Possibly your cold bath tap washer come of the spindle and when certains water pressure build up it lift the washer off the base and then water come rushing thru'. Take it apart and see if it want renewing or re-seating into position.

Thanks, the bathroom's next on my list to be replaced. I'll see if that solves it.

Changing your bathroom is a bit drastic for a washer problems isn't it, Let's cost this out....£5000 or 2p!!!
