Hi,
A rented flat needs to be inspected; PIR. It is installed with battery operated smoke alarm units. I know that there was a requirement to install mains operated systems only. Now with the new 17th edition I understand that the battery type ones are allowed.

1) Can some one confirm this, and may be direct me to the chapter in BS7671 2008.
2) Is there a written test procedure for these type of units?

Thanks
Albert

Thanks, and I think you are right it would be in the building regs, (which I do not have a copy (BS5839 I think is the one deals with fire alarm).

Does the smoke alarm test require a certificate?

As far as building regs go, I know smokes need to be within so many meters (cant remember exact number, 5?) of all bed rooms, but is there also a requirement to have one on each floor? sorry for hijack!
