Sorry its not a car question but I have a flat battery on a Drain Jetting machine.

The label says 085/ 43Ah, now what I want to know is what is the most powerful battery I can fit in its place?

Andy

It also says CCA 370 (SAE)

Andy, so long as the voltage is the same, you can fit the largest battery that the machine can accommodate......085 is the battery identification number, and 43 AH is 43 amps per hour rating.......the more AH you can get, the more stamina the battery will have.

No worries mate - it could be worth checking that the engine charging system is in good nick though.
Are we talking about a recoil start diesel here?
John :)

It looks like a seriously good bit of kit, that one...
Seems to have a Briggs Vanguard engine - either single cylinder or V twin up to around 20 hp I think......thats on the limit for a recoil start, and even then you need to get a good pull at it. However, they should be good starters anyway.
I've found with some pressure washers they crank over much more easily before the water is turned on....this may not be the case with this one, of course.

I wasn't aware that Andy's machine had a Briggs motor - any conventional size car battery should cope with that.
The charging system is very basic, only involving a diode or two usually, and the average Briggs starter motor (inertia type) must only be used for short bursts as they tend to overheat. Just as well these things are good starters! The CCA is more than adequate for these.

I've got one of these engines on my lawn tractor and it starts very well, even if I have forgotton to charge it over the winter  . I found mine difficult to start when I first had it until I checked on the carburetter linkage and found that the choke was not going fully on, a little adjustment of the cable worked wonders.
