Just removed an LCD from a Dell Inspiron laptop in order to get replacement.

However when ordering a new one I found a "how to" video on the supplier’s site and the first thing it mentions is that you must remove the battery, which I didn’t (but have now!)

The laptop was switched off whilst i removed the LCD.

Am I likely to have caused any damage?

thanks

I've removed dozens of Inspiron 1501 and similar Vostro 1000 screens without removing the battery or damaging anything as a result. Removing the battery is a good way of ensuring that an unplugged laptop is really off and not in a sleep state with certain areas still powered so it's not bad advice.

and if you drop a screw you won't accidentally create a possible short but its more a theoretical risk generally as the chance is quite low but better safe than sorryas it could have possible live current running around it even when switched off but with each make/model of lappy different its hard to say without a full circuit diagram and a few cups of tea while tracing everything
