I've just been to look at one of these which was not rectifying and cutting out after a few seconds. When I got there it turned out that the fella was a bit of a messer who had been having a go at it himself. He'd put a new diaphragm in and had a play round with the burner pressure adjustment (why). It had a bad drip from the gland nut at the front of the diaphragm housing, so I was reluctant to do too much to it until that is fixed. But I cleaned the electrodes and connections and got it going. However, when up to temperature it cut out and restarted etc. so I have left it switched off and electrically isolated for now. My plan is to go back to it tomorrow evening with a new gland seal and a temperature sensor, but I wondered if anyone has any suggestions as to what else to look for.

look for the customers tool kit and take it away!

Check everything on this boiler according to the manufactures instuctions, if the customer tampered with the gas valve, who knows what else they have tampered with. remember after you leave it you now except responsibility for it. if they have done something dangerous and you miss it its your backside!
should take a nice long time and be half way to the cost of a new boiler by then.

thats he's option, you can only advise on what you think is best.
Got to be worth a new electrode/set?
Maybe the positioning is uber critical, you could measure the flame rec current..?
Surely you only have to be liable that it's "gas safe", not a perfect boiler - new set of plugs does not a new car make!

I am surprised that Sooey will go to one of these boilers without a seal, diaphragm and NTC.
Perhaps he charges by the hour and just wants to make more income but in London with the traffic problems it would be very foolish to have to return a second time.
On our fixed price repair system we have to be able to repair most boilers on just one visit.

Chrisr I think it got past the non rectification stage, cos after giving the eectrodes a good clean it stayed on fine until it go up to temp, then started to cycle on & off. That's what makes me think it may be the temp sensor, anyway I've got to sort the leak out first cos while I was there today I couldn't really get stuck into the thing for fear of getting water on the pcb. I'll have a good play with it tomorrow when the leak is sorted. Baxpoti thanks I'll follow your advice. Tony, that's one of the good things about Liverpool, less traffic probems (well nobody's got any wheels left on their cars dont ya know).

I think that you may be the only one who thinks that!
They are planning to introduce a congestion charge and the Government has given the green light!

Simple question Agile who supplies you with all the parts on what may be a probable fault and accepts them back when not used ,so you get first time completion.

I was only joking about the lack of traffic Tony, but I won't have to pay congestion charges for me horse anyway, so I'm not bothered.
