Hi my 5 year old Baxi Bermuda does a lot of ticking before it eventually fires- about 2 minutes. Sometimes it doesn't fire and goes into lock out. It was never a good starter even when new but it seems to have got worse. Once the first start up has been successful, all other start ups (after heating/hot water has been satisfied and boiler is then needed to fire to satisfy heating/hot water) are fine it's just when there's a break of half dozen hours or so. Any ideas? Thanks to any replies.

Has it been serviced?

Has it ever been examined by a really competent engineer?

No it's never been serviced I thought these back boilers didn't need it.

Oh Dear! What gave you that idea?

A back boiler must be serviced regularly and particularly checked for safety as its an open flued appliance.

They have been responsible for several of the carbon monoxide deaths!

I cannot believe in this day and age,and with the recent fatalities, home and abroad, that people can still be this ignorant.

O'course if the manufacturers were to put a lil led with a spanner next to it that flashed, that might help.

Damn good idea that,it could be connected to a large blue flashing light, mounted in the middle of the mantel piece.

There was a manufacturer who did have a flashing spanner and if the boiler was not engineer reset within a month the boiler turned off!

Designed for housing association applications. But I dont think it was repeated.

New Danfoss programmers with Si after the model number, all have service interval timers in them that switch the boiler off if not serviced.

Danfoss will only give the access codes to registered installers who write or fax them their details on headed business paper.
