Has anyone had problems with the spark gap closing.

This has happened twice now, in November the boiler stopped firing up and displayed error 133 the problem was weak spark due to too small a gap it was approx 1mm.

It was reset to the correct 4mm all was ok until yesterday then the same thing happened again.

The gap again has been restored and the unit is operational again.

its a known problem , a modified electrode is available for permanent fix

Actually the spark is stronger across a smaller gap! But its not so effective at igniting the gas mixture. I would guess because less mixture is exposed to the spark.

Same applies to car spark plugs!

A DIYer should not try to adjust his own boiler spark gaps!

I have not adjusted my own a gas safe engineer did the adjustments, I have the heat team coming to look at it so I expect they will replace it with the new type.

Thank you both for your info.

The new style one is a much sturdier unit and should solve your problems
