Baxi Genesis 80 - sticky diverter valve?

Hi there,

I've a 13 year old Baxi Genesis 80 which has proved reliable up to this point. In recent times, I'm having a bit of trouble with the diverter valve seemingly sticking when I demand hot water* - the central heating will warm up instead.

I've taken to lightly tapping the side of the valve with a small hammer as soon as the hot tap is turned on. This will usually rectify the problem. However, rather than being a once a month event, I'm having to do it every couple of days.

Is it a case of dirt in the valve, or do such valves get 'tired' or is there another possible cause of the problem?

Is it straightfoward to remove the valve and dismantle it to give it a clean, in the case that dirt is the issue?

Thanks for any tips you might have..

Anti.

* Very occasionally it will not operate the other way around, i.e. when I demand central heating the unit will trip out on over temp. But this is once in a blue moon compared to hot water demand failing.

Just get the diverter replaced...they are weak stepper motors and it doesn't take much for them to stick.

They can be cleaned although most professionals would replace them if that could be fitted into the itinary.
