Baxi Solo 50PF. The "Overheat" light won't turn off, no matter how long we leave the boiler either switched off at the mains or set to zero. The boiler doesn't even attempt to heat up, though, when we set the dial to a non-zero number, so how can it be overheating? It's probably about 15 degrees in there!

Thanks Ben

Could be a faulty overheat stat. Needs testing with a multimeter.

The overheat stat needs reseting Ben.

Turn the thermostat control knob fully anti-clockwise and hold for 10 seconds, turn the knob to your temp setting (not full) and the overheat lamp should go off and boiler commence ignition.

If this fails then you will need an engineer to diagnose the fault.
At this point I would get someone in to find out why the limit stat has tripped anyhow.

Good luck Ben. ;)

Let you into a little secret I am the guy and i have never seen this kind of fault the reset dose nothing it just stayes as it was blowing my tiny mind

how will i know if the stat is testing ok?? thanks DAVE

Have you tested overheat stat as I mentioned? If ok then I would suspect pcb.

Check the MI's. They will tell you if it should be open circuit or closed circuit if it is ok. Can't remember which on this boiler. If its showing open circuit you could possibly 'short out' two wires on overheat stat to make circuit and see if it works. (This is only for a temporary test)

the boiler now should be cold so if trying to reset overheat at cold suggests the overheat stat has gone wrong but its usually the pcb at fault.
